One Bad Corvette

Havent been writing much on the blog these days cuz of the busy schedule cuz of work and Ramadan. I came across this today and i was really impressed by the car but more than that what impressed me was who had built the car. These engineers were working ofr P ang G and they had explored their passion for cars and turned it into a reality. They are the people that we should look up to. Why? Because they have the passion to pursue their dreams, we as Pakistanis lack that passion now to work for what we want. Everyone is looking for the easy way out of things. Which is wrong and which has cause they Pakistani society to decay and crumble into the ashes of their past glory. We are living in the past and not seeing the future shape up against us!

Why do Atheists care about Religion?

Interesting to note how the people can speak a lot of things by not saying the things that we think. I being Muslim cannot say that i exactly agree with the concept of God not being there, however i feel that the people should have a right to live the way they want to live, dosent matter which religion they belong to or do not belong to. In this time , day and age when the tolerance between people of differing faiths is at a low i am not surprised that the tolerance of the people without any religion is also challenged. The only problem that i can feel here is that the comments that people have made about other religions are not good and due to this sometimes they come in the midst of to religions fighting for supremacy among themselves!

Driving in Ramdan

I have always been wary of driving in Ramadan. I don't know where the concept of road rage came from first but Pakistanis are probably the country where this concept is practiced in advanced stages. From the novice driver to the most experienced all engage in the intricacies of implementing road rage in their driving. The average joe cannot figure to control his nerves in the midst of such an onslaught and usually does not drive during rush hour or hires someone else to do it for him.
During Ramadan this concept of road rage is taken to its utmost limits. Bloodshot eyes, frothy mouth, fists waving, sweaty and swearing are the classical symptoms or rather the identification marks of an average driver engaging in road rage.
They will cut in front of you, honk you from behind, change lanes from the wrong end and brake suddenly in front of you, but that is all understood when you start your engines you are entering a race track where there are no rules and no risks too small!
Get set jet go!!!

Youtube

I have always been a regular visitor of you tube since i don't know how long, i go there because i know that i will find something or the other that will make me smile or laugh if only for a moment. But recently i have been observing that the amount of videos related to porn or nudity have been increasing at a very fast rate. I wonder why this is? I recently came across a documentry made by BBC "Teens hooked on Porn". It was depressing to say the least. Viewing pornographic content is now being treated by doctors like a disease. They prescribe medication for it and the patient has to be monitored at all costs. Now, taking this is the fact in many western and European countries we cant be ignorant of the fact that this is deeply rooted in our society as well. Rainbow center is famous not only for selling cheap pirated DVDs but it is also the hub of selling porn to people of all ages. In Pakistan we may treat this subject as a taboo but we cant be ignorant of the fact that this is there in the society and its evils are being seen spreading. The number of molestations and rapes are increasing day by day and these pornographic content are feeding the imagination of the evildoers.
My point here is that rather than treating this as a taboo subject and letting the kids find out about it from dubious sources why not inform them of the dangers and the problems associated with this, feed them intellectually what they should know about the problems so that they dont have to turn to any other source for the information that they would naturally seek once they are of a certain age? Warn them of the spiritual aspect as well as the religious aspect of the subject and then have control over their information flow.

Godcast-Episode 1

Hmmmmmm....came across this the other day while browsing thru u-tube. Its got some really nasty comments by people who dont like this idea. What i cant seem to figure out is why the guy has done this in the first place, what would compell the guy to have such a crazy idea!!!Anywhays, i am not for it and not against it either, i in my personal opinion think that the guy should really get out of the house more and engage in more healthy activities rather than doing this. But its his idea of having fun so you cant say anything to anyone, the whole idea of free speech and stuff, i mean people were so upset by the Muslim reaction to the caricatures of the Holy Prophet(PBUH) and they were saying its all free speech and stuff, the whole hippie movement and shit....well this is the same thing guys, its free speech thrown right back at ya!!!!!!!

Tony Robbins motivates you in 20 minutes: TEDTalks

Professional motivators, they have become the new sensation of the west and its slowly catching up to the East as well. Why do people need to be motivated about their own life? Work motivation i can understand but why your own life? The phenomenon that other people can tell you better how to lead your life or they can tell u things about your life which would make you commit towards your life is not an idea that i can easily digest. How can u expect a person who has never met u, never talked with u and never seen you carry out your day to day activities be in sync with what kind of problems you face day in and day out. How can any one tell you how to lead your life better than you yourself?

Interviews

I had an interview today with one of the most prestigious multinational bank of the world, they think all people are fools besides them (no offense to anyone). The guy had called me yesterday and asked me if i would be interested in working for the organization. The company being a multinational and being one of the best globally, i decided to give it a shot, you never know. The guy when i had asked over the phone had said with a lot of arrogance in his tone that we have several listings if you are interested. I said why no?. Khair i went to II Chundrigar (for those of you who don't know its the the Wall Street of Pakistan) and went up to the bank. Prompt at 10am i was called in, me being the only person present for an interview at that time and i was seated before their senior branch manager. The usual interview questions followed, what do u know about us, why u want to work here blah blah blah etc etc etc. When i asked him for what position they wold be hiring me the guy gives me a fancy title. I ask him what i would be asked to do? Long story short they wanted me to bring in deposits for accounts at the bank so that the deposit base of the company could grow!:s I turned them down there and then. Why do people think that the person seated in front of you is a fool all the time. I mean lets be honest, even i when i meet a person the preset feeling and thinking about that person without even meeting him/her that i sometimes have is that he/she knows less than i do, why is that? Is it some in built sense of professional jealousy or some prejudice or some ingrained psychological state that compels us into behaving towards individuals that way? I tried to correct it and to be honest i could not eradicate it 100%. The best i could do was about half the time i would not have a preconceived notion about someones personality.

Cat eyes....or not?

I was driving today on Sharah-e-Faisal, the main artery which connects Karachi's several towns and is the most likely road you will travel going to just about anywhere. Khair, i was driving and i indicated to switch lanes and then suddenly i heard these horrible sounds like someone was hammering away on the underside of my car. After i had switched lanes successfully the sounds stopped and then i realized that these sounds had been caused by the cats eye dividers that have been put in place, these things are the size of a cat and are placed every 2 feet away. Now i failed to understand the importance of these things uptill now when i got to the office and have started hearing new mysterious sounds coming from my car. The conclusion that i derived at was that this was a conspiracy by the car manufacturers and the government to increase the wear and tear on the common mans cars so that he/she may change their cars more often and result in revenues for the car makers and taxes for the government The reason being that no sane person would put these huge pieces of metal on roads where cars travel in excess of 80km/h.What were the people with the city government thinking?!!!!!!!!

Huh?

This ad must have cost Pepsi a fortune to make. What i don't understand is why they did not try and come up with a better concept for the ad having spent so much money on getting the most famous footballers. However you look at it it doest not make any sense. Why are the kids changing into spacesuits and clowns before turning into the soccer players?

Sad...but true

This cartoon was forwarded to me by a friend of mine who is currently working with Unilever. Its humorous but sadly its also true. We are driven by the expectations of our bosses to such an extent that we engage in practices that are not allowed or are frowned upon just to meet targets. We have a recent case of Enron, going under just because it wanted to jack up its share prices to the expectations of the public and the board. The moral we get from Enron's collapse is that no matter how big you are, if you do bad things they catch up to you in the end.....karma people karma!

Off the Hols

Hmmmm....well it seems that i am writing on the blog after a long time, and true it is too. Was ill for a little while the post on Flu and stuff would have given some insight into that. I had 3 gorgeous days of rest and sleep during with i had a lot of time to contemplate and think about a lot of things that i wanted to think about and a lot more that i didnt want to think about but thought about all the same. :P Khair, with the advent of Ramadan in Pakistan and all over the world for that matter, the whole atmosphere has changed in the country.
Pakistanis are the 2nd on the list of most charity giving countries...thats right charity giving countries int he world. Dosnt seem like it right? Well come to Pakistan around Ramadan time and you will see that it is true.Every street corner you will see beggars, every corner you will see people standing in line for alms. According to a recent research the avg beggar on the streets of Karachi can collects about Rs 700-1200 daily depending on where that person is and in what locality he/she is working in. Surprised? so was i when i came to know of this statistic. So how is it that a country whose citizens give so much away is still so poor?how is it that a country whose citizens care so much about the wellbeing of others cannot provide the most basic healthcare for most of its nationals?why is the crime rate so high?why is the poverty rate so high?why is the litracy rate so low?Did i miss something somewhere? Cuz according to the stats that i have told you we should have very little poverty,no? The thing is there is a lot of wealth accumulation in this country. The country's government is poor but the people are rich. They don't pay their taxes to the government. The government deducts zakat money from the accounts of the people on the 1st of every Ramadan but usually people have withdrawn their money a few days before and deposit it a few days later. They prefer to give the zakat to people whome they know. Why is it that the people dont trust the government with their zakat money? Why is it that people dont give taxes but would give equivalent amounts in the name of charity? I am thinking about this and you do too, ill wirte my answers in the next post.

Gods Curse on Man

When man ignored Gods commandments, God decided to put a curse on Man. No no no it wasnt women people, it was the Flu!!! The most terrible of all things when you start to feel drowsy, when your nose starts to run, when you get that cold cough, when you cant see because of the tears in your eyes which are a result of constant sneezing, thats when you look up towards the heavens and ask God "WHY OH WHY GOD???????WHY ME????????!!!!!!! WHAT WAS THAT HORRIBLE CRIME THAT I COMMITTED FOR WHICH YOU SENT ME THE FLU!!!!!!!!!" It is a question that seldom goes answered.
When you get the flu you look at the whole world from a different perspective. Everything looks irritating and you want to murder everyone around you cuz u have the flu and they dont. You feel rejected and depressed that you were the one who had the flu and not them. There is no medicine that can cure this immediately. No vaccine has been invented that can prevent this flu from infecting you. It evolves, changes shape, develops and learns and mutates and every year comes back in a new form to make man miserable again.
Its like the poem of humpty dumpty,
"all the kings horses and all the kings men could not put humpty dumpty together again" only in this case it would go something like this "all the worlds scientists and all the worlds doctors, could not put together a cure for, the flu"
The ultimate enemy of man, causing billions of dollars to companies worldwide cuz of the sick days that employees take off, it has the power to destroy the economy, the most powerful men of the world are vulnerable to this..........the flu!!!!! BEWARE the person next to you may be infected !!!!!! aaa....aaaa...aaaa....aaaaaaachu!!!

Make It Happen Part 2, My WORLD!!!!

Hmmmm...how will i change the world? Seems like i am writing an essay for my 5th grade english paper again "what will i do if i was the Prime Minister" :P
But looking at what i will do no matter how silly it seems. I would like a world where injustice will not exist. Thats all that i would like to do, remove the injustices, all other things will resolve themselves. In a social system, looking after the needs of the other people in our society, caring for them as we do for ourself. When we see an injustice happening, why is it that the people around not involved dont give a damn?!!!! I mean all our lives we are taught civic sense and all religions give the teaching that look after thy neighbor then how can we forget those values as soon as snap?!! I dont understand why people are so indifferent to the plight of other or rather how could they be so indifferent?
Coming back to the injustices part, for that to happen we have to understand that people should know that if they engage in taking what is not their to take and doing what is not to be done they would be punished as they have to have the feeling that justice will catch up to them in this life. This done people should know that they can seek justice and that they will not be disappointed and their problems will not go unanswered.
For this to be done there has to be an in dependent judicial system which would be free of the interference from political parties and all other domains of public governance.
This however raises a problem that how will the judicial system be monitored and how will they be held accountable for all the power that is placed in their hands? The answer is simple enough, they would be elected by the people themselves and they could be replaced by the people themselves. They would have to understand that there is no room to play god.

Make it Happen

Me and a fellow colleague were watching an ad in the morning in which the pitch was about a woman saying :"i can change the world if i want to ". That got me thinking and here i am sharing my thoughts. How can a single individual be able to change the world? If he/she can do it it would it be for the better or for the worse? And can it be that the change that we see would be brought about by a single individual? We have various examples of people who have set out to change the world and to an extent they have left their impact on society at large. Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Mahatma Ghandi, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, and more recently Osama Bin Laden. All of these people are loved by some and hated by some but we have to admit that they have all left their mark on the world. The most interesting aspect of this is that these people may not have realized in what way they would be leaving their mark on society. Another thing that we have to see is that the people who supported these men have largely been unknown to the common public. So coming back to the present, how can a single person change the world now? In my view that would largely depend on how he/she wants to change the world. Food for thought, How can you change the world? How i would change the world i will put on a little later.

Monday Morning Blues!!!

Being a habitual late night sleeper, i usually have trouble getting up everyday at 7am. But on Mondays my snooze has to go off about 15 times before i wake up and am usually coming in just in time at the office. Now Monday morning blues are just somethings that every individual goes through, every working individual i.e. and although i am in no way happy about it i accept it as a part of life that we cant be rid of just like roaches and other various bugs.

Has anyone seen the fevicol glue and adhesives ads that they show on television. Well can u beat this? :P On any local road in Karachi this is a regular sight. In Pakistan we dont need adhesives to stick us to buses, we are natural born stickers :P

Problems

Yesterday i was talking to a friend of mine, she was really depressed over a relationship that she had been into for the past 5 years. Apparently the person she is involved with does not trust her. The reason being that she being a very pretty lady naturally attracts guys, though that being no fault of her own, bugs the person she is committed towards. Why is it that when we get into a relationship we become so possessive that we forget to take into account the feelings of the person that we are with and say things to him/her which would cause hurt? And also why is it that we cant seem to break away from those people who cause us hurt and pain? What is this feeling that causes us to endure so much? And yet the smallest thing will tear two people apart. Food for thought, is it just the fact that people are naturally selfish and are concerned only about their own self?
